Roadmap

What we're building, and what we're not.

Purrfin is in beta. The list below is the honest version: what's in flight, what's in design, what we've ruled out, and what we'll only ship when we trust how we ship it.
Phase 0
Phase 1
Phase 2
Phase 3
Phase 4
Phase 5

We don't pre-announce dates we haven't earned. We do publish status. A milestone marked In design has prototype work behind it. Exploring means we have an opinion but no commitment. Planned means it's on the compliance roadmap and will ship in dependency order. Ruled out means we've considered it and chosen not to. The compliance roadmap inside the codebase is the source of truth; this page is its public reflection.

Goals
In design

Targets that survive contact with real life.

Most goals trackers are progress bars stapled onto a savings account. Goals in Purrfin will read your real spending history and tell you the truth: how much room you actually have, what derails you in October every year, and which months historically over-deliver.

A goal isn't a number. It's a relationship with your cash flow. When we ship Goals, the card you see won't just say 23%. It will tell you, based on three Octobers of your own data, whether your November target is realistic or whether you're about to lie to yourself.

Why it matters

Numerical goals without context are aspirational at best and demoralising at worst. We have the historical data to do better.

What's different

We already learn from your spending history for the budget forecast. Goals reuse the same understanding instead of inventing a parallel signal.

Not doing

No round-up automation, no auto-transfers, no "save when you spend" rails. Purrfin does not move money.

Debt
Exploring

The future of debt paydown.

Cards, student loans, BNPL, that thing you owe your sibling. Debt is multi-currency, multi-rate, and multi-emotional. Purrfin's debt tracker will model each obligation with its rate, term, and minimum, then let you compare avalanche vs. snowball vs. a custom plan, in your primary currency, against the same household budget you already share.

We won't initiate payments. We'll just make sure you can see the finish line, and that the household sees it together.

Why it matters

Debt is the single most under-served domain in personal finance apps. The tools that exist either treat it as a single-currency single-account problem, or assume bank linking.

What's different

Multi-currency from day one. Lives inside the same shared budget group as the rest of your household, so paydown plans do not sit in a parallel app.

Not doing

No credit-score integration, no balance transfer recommendations, no debt-consolidation referrals.

Bank linking
Planned

Opt-in. Read-only. Region-aware.

The single most-requested feature, and the one we've taken the longest to design, because we refuse to ship it badly.

When bank linking arrives, it will be region-appropriate (EU servers for EU users, US servers for US users) and protected with an extra encryption layer. We'll record your consent and ask you to renew it every 90 days, so the connection always stays current and intentional. Every connection will be transactions only. Purrfin will never have permission to move money.

Manual entry and sharing CSVs from your bank app stay first-class citizens, regardless. You will be able to use Purrfin entirely without ever connecting a bank, indefinitely.

Why it matters

Manual import works, but for many users the friction is real. Bank linking is the difference between Purrfin being something they use weekly and something they use occasionally.

What's different

Routed to the right region based on where you signed up. Read-only by design. Tokens get an extra encryption layer on top of disk encryption.

Not doing

Payment initiation. Account opening flows. Storing your bank credentials directly. We work through a regulated bank-linking partner instead.

Purrfin is requesting read-only access

Read transaction history
Read account balances
Initiate payments
Access credentials directly
Re-authorisation required every 90 daysA regulatory requirement we inherit from our bank-linking partner. Your consent, refreshed regularly.
Disconnect bankYour imported history stays. The connection does not.
Privacy & compliance6 of 11 milestones shipped. Detail in the table below.

Quiet work, said out loud.

Most of what makes a personal finance app trustworthy is invisible. It's the audit log on every change. It's the email-confirmed deletion that actually deletes. It's keeping your transaction descriptions out of someone else's group. It's the EU data residency you didn't have to ask about.

Purrfin's compliance work is tracked phase by phase against UK GDPR and EU GDPR. The full table below is the public-facing version of what's in the codebase. We update it by hand when phases ship, so if the table says Shipped, the work is in production, not in a pull request.

Why it matters

Trust is structural, not declarative. We get the structure right or we don't claim to be trustworthy.

What's different

EU-hosted from day one. Sensitive details split out of transaction records before sharing shipped, not after. Audit log shipped before anyone asked.

Not doing

We don't pursue compliance theatre. SOC 2 is not on the roadmap until enterprise demand justifies it. ISO 27001 likewise.
